Medical Beauty Is a Booming Industry

In a society that is increasingly influenced and even dictated by appearance, medical beauty has grown to be an industry within itself. From reducing the appearance of scars to permanently removing unwanted hair, there is a wide range of cosmetic treatments available.

Medical beauty can be considered any medicine or procedure specializing in, or intended to improve, cosmetic appearance. It includes a broad array of procedures ranging from simple facials to more sophisticated laser-based treatments designed to reduce or reverse signs of aging, such as wrinkles, age spots, and loose skin. It also can address skin problems that are a result of other health conditions, such as the scars that occur during pregnancy or rapid weight loss.

Aestheticians are trained in beautifying skin, and can perform both noninvasive and invasive aesthetic treatments. Noninvasive procedures include chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser treatments to remove unwanted pigmentation or the fine red and purple lines that occur as a result of weakened vascular tissue (spider veins). Invasive aesthetics are more common than ever, with breast augmentation, liposuction, eyelid surgery, abdominoplasty, nose reshaping, and dental and hair transplants in high demand.

With so many advancements and trends redefining the beauty industry, it’s important for practitioners to be aware of the latest products, procedures, and technologies that are helping drive this growing market. By staying educated, and by helping their patients set realistic expectations, medical beauty professionals can remain at the forefront of this booming industry.
